Kirstin Rabe's artistic work is characterised by diverse transformation processes.

Rabe reinterprets the technique of papermaking by casting sheets of paper from old newspapers, cotton pulp, pigments and binders in a sustained and almost meditative process. In further working steps, these sheets are formed into layered or knotted reliefs. In various groups of works, the broken, wavy lines of countless layers of paper strung together suggest constant movement.

In their totality, however, these reliefs radiate clarity and calm, visualising elemental phenomena of light, colour and texture. Rabe senses and explores the special materiality and haptics of the fragile material paper in order to experiment with ever new technical and creative possibilities.
