In her fine paper cuts Sabine Hilscher seeks to capture the resonance of the human body in connection with its environment. In the ANATOMY series she works mapsCutOuts into organs. With the fine red paper veins cut out, she traces the vein networks and their plastic form from the networks of our life movements. On old printed maps, there are always curvatures and connection points that often bear striking similarities to the vein structures of the human body. The finely cut paper, in turn, as an organic material, has a static life of its own, from which the plastic curvatures and curves of the organ structures can be recreated in a difficult working process. The intention of her works is to capture this resonance of the large structures as sound in the fine paper veins and to let the references reverberate in us. The fineness of the paper structures is meant to make us cautiously and wonderingly aware of the marvels of our world and to make the quiet and attentive sounds resonate within us.
